CARPHA Leads Health Response After Hurricane Melissa
The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is standing strong with Jamaica as the country recovers from Hurricane Melissa’s devastation. Families have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods, and CARPHA says Jamaica’s pain is the Caribbean’s pain. Beyond the destruction, the storm brings serious health risks: unsafe water, food contamination, disease outbreaks, and mental health challenges. CARPHA is on the frontlines, working with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, Jamaica’s Ministry of Health, PAHO, and regional partners to keep public health at the center of recovery. The agency is mobilizing supplies, rapid test kits, PPE, field hospital equipment, and coordinating efforts to prevent outbreaks like dengue and leptospirosis. It’s also committed to helping Jamaica rebuild stronger health systems for the future.
