Caye Caulker Awaits Answers on Stalled Police Project

Hopes for improved security on Caye Caulker are giving way to mounting frustration tonight. Construction on a new police station has abruptly stalled, leaving residents and village leaders asking why work has suddenly stopped. The project, announced earlier this year as part of a national push to modernize policing, now appears caught up in questions over the very land it sits on. Reports circulating tonight suggest the property may be tied up in an ownership dispute, or may have even been sold, raising serious concerns about delays. “The substation in Caye Caulker will greatly enhance the capability and greatly enhance the working conditions of the officers stationed there. For now, where they are is inadequate and this will make sure that the police substation and the officers working there provide that necessary security for the residents, but not only for the residents, for the visitors that go to Caye Caulker.””
