Caye Caulker Secures Cannabis Referendum Date
It is official, Caye Caulker Village will hold a cannabis referendum on October eighth. Members of the community gathered signatures from registered voters in support of the government passing legislation to create a regulated and taxable legal cannabis industry on the island. The petition explained that a portion of the revenue generated would go directly to the community and its residents. Well, they were tasked with gathering signatures from at least twenty-five percent of the registered electors on the island. They did just that and on May twenty-first, those signatures were delivered to the Governor-General. On July thirty-first, the Chief Election Officer certified that all the signatures on the petition were verified against the Elections and Boundaries Department’s record. We will provide an update on this development in a subsequent newscast.
