Cayo Man Charged in Double Murder One Year Later

Police have arrested and charged 29-year-old construction worker Akeem Alfred Richards of Cayo with two counts of murder. The arrest comes more than a year after the deadly shooting of Clint Castillo and Andrew Muns in Cotton Tree Village.

The incident happened on July 6, 2024.

Both men were shot multiple times near the village’s primary school, at a time when Cotton Tree was under a State of Emergency due to rising crime.

Castillo died the day after the incident; meanwhile, Muns was critically injured and paralysed. He died 18 days later while receiving treatment. 

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a dispute among friends.

Police had earlier charged 23-year-old Jamal Hyde for allegedly supplying the firearm used in the killings.
