Cayo South Gets Major Facility and Infrastructure Upgrades

Community development in the villages of Cayo South is getting a major boost. From refurbished community centers to upgraded football fields, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing says it’s all part of a bigger plan to improve recreational spaces for villages. Today, we spoke with District Clinical Supervisor Mario Lopez and Zone Coordinator Santiago Juan about the projects currently underway and what’s next for sports facilities in the area.”

“We are trying to focus on community centers, sporting facilities. Just to mention a few. The first phase was refurbishing community centers around Cayo South. I think we’ve done most of them already. So now we are going around the football fields, making sure they have adequate lighting, building bleachers, roofing for the bleachers, bathroom facilities. So that is where we are right now. As we speak, we’re working at the Saint Matthews football field and the Camalote football field. We have two projects in the pipeline for next year, early next year. We want to refurbish the softball pitch in Camalote as well as the Roaring Creek one. So we are focused on, on that. So like I said, this is part of a bigger plan, we are doing it by phases and we are making sure that nobody’s left out and we are going village by village. Most of the funding comes in from our representative community developing development fund, sorry. And we lobby with other ministries as well just to name one where right now we are working on a gym equipment installation in Ontario Village, which is a collaborative effort through the Ministry of Health, our friends from Taiwan and MIDH and our area representative.”
