CCC Students Sent Home for Second Day
For the second day in a row, students at Corozal Community College were sent home after classes failed to continue as scheduled. Parents dropped off their children this morning, only to be called back again to pick their kids up by nine o’clock.
The disruption comes as teachers escalate their protest over unpaid salaries. On Monday staff walked out, and the campus was left empty by two o’clock in the afternoon.
Sources say the problem stems from tensions between the administration and its finance officer. Teachers allege this is not the first time disbursements have been held back.
Over the weekend teachers reported the matter to the Belize National Teachers’ Union. Monday’s walkout was carried out with the union’s backing.
Educators continue demanding a formal meeting with the School Board to resolve the dispute.
News 5 understands that teachers will not be coming back until salaries have been paid and a formal meeting is confirmed.
