Ceasefire Under Strain as Trump Threatens to ‘Go In’ on Hamas

President Donald Trump issued a stark warning, saying that if Hamas continues killing people in Gaza, “we will have no choice but to go in and kill them.” The statement, posted on Truth Social, marks a sharp shift in tone just days after a ceasefire agreement was brokered between Israel and Hamas.

The threat came amid reports that Hamas fighters have used the truce to reassert control over the Gaza Strip, allegedly targeting Palestinians accused of collaborating with Israeli forces. Footage circulating online shows what appear to be public executions, raising alarm about the group’s actions during the ceasefire period.

Just days earlier, Trump had declared the war “effectively over” and downplayed early reports of violence, suggesting Hamas was targeting “very bad gangs”. However, his tone has shifted dramatically in recent days. Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper, Trump said the war could resume “as soon as I say the word” and warned that Hamas must disarm or “we will disarm them”.

Israel has accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire by delaying the return of deceased hostages. Trump’s comments suggest growing frustration with Hamas’ actions and a willingness to support renewed military action if the group fails to comply with the terms of the deal.
