Centaur Withdraws From Proposed BTL Acquisition Talks

Centaur Communications Corp. Ltd. has formally withdrawn from negotiations for the proposed acquisition of the Centaur Group of Companies by Belize Telemedia Limited, citing broader external, political, and reputational concerns that emerged during the process.

In a letter dated January 11, 2026, addressed to BTL Chairman Markhelm Lizarraga, Jaime Briceño said the company remained confident in the commercial and strategic merits of the transaction, noting that from a business standpoint the deal offered “clear financial and operational merits for BTL, as well as meaningful long-term value for all stakeholders involved.”

However, Briceño said that after “careful reflection and consultation,” it had taken the “difficult decision to withdraw from these negotiations.”

The letter added that the decision was not based on any reassessment of the business rationale or valuation of the transaction. Instead, Centaur said it reflected concerns over “the broader external and political considerations that have emerged during the process, and the disproportionate personal and reputational burdens that continued negotiations would inevitably entail.”

“In light of these factors, we have concluded that it would not be appropriate to proceed at this time,” Briceño wrote.
