CEO Usher Takes Over Volleyball Association
After eighteen years under the leadership of Allan Sharp, the Belize Volleyball Association now has a new president. Francis Usher won Sunday’s election with two hundred and three votes, defeating national team captain and former teammate Elton Anderson, who received ninety-nine. For Usher, the victory is a milestone he is eager to build on but one that comes with mixed emotions as he takes over from a man he credits with transforming volleyball in Belize, while also having to go head-to-head with a close friend.
On the Phone: Francis Usher, President, Belize Volleyball Association
“There were two great candidates running, vying for the presidency of the Belize Volleyball Association and volleyball would have been in good hands with either of us. You know, Elton is excellent and I look forward to continuing to work with him. We will keep volleyball on the, the path, a sustainable path for continued international success and we’ll build back the local tournaments because that has taken somewhat of a dip. So we’ll work toward rejuvenating the hype locally with more tournaments. We’ll work with all the stakeholders, all the clubs, all the district associations, the National Sports Council, Ministry of Sport and the Belize Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games Committee. So we look forward to working with everyone and we look forward to keeping volleyball as the best sport in Belize.”
Francis Usher said he looks forward to working with former rival Elton Anderson to keep Belize volleyball on a path of sustained success.
