Chester Williams Speaks After Being Passed Over for Home Affairs CEO
Chester Williams, the CEO in the Ministry of Transport, was once considered a strong contender for a top post in the Ministry of Home Affairs. But as we now know, Prime Minister John Briceño handed that position to Rear Admiral Elton Bennett. Some say Williams was the better fit, given his years of experience in policing. So, how does he feel about being passed over? We asked him today.
On the Phone: Chester Williams, C.E.O, Ministry of Transport
“Our prime minister is the prime minister and there is a reason why the Constitution at section 107 gives the prime minister the authority, the powers to appoint CEOs, ambassadors, certain heads like the police, the coast guard, the military as well as the comptroller of customs. It is within the prerogative of the prime minister to appoint whoever he believes is fit for whatever task. I am already the CEO in a ministry and I can say to you I feel extremely comfortable working here with Dr. Zabaneh. There is a lot we have done and a lot we want to do. I have a very dynamic staff willing to work. They are committed and dedicated. If I was to be pulled out the ministry the staff would be disappointed, some of what we are working on would be slowed down. I am extremely happy that I am able to stay where I am and I am confident that Admiral Bennett will do his best to fulfill the mandate that is expected of him at the Ministry of Home Affairs.”
