Belize City residents are being urged to prepare for significant traffic disruptions as the government rolls out what officials describe as one of the largest infrastructure overhauls in the city’s history.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) is partnering with the Belize City Council to host a public consultation at the Civic Center on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., aimed at outlining plans for three major projects set to run concurrently over the next three years.

At the centre of the transformation is the replacement of the historic Swing Bridge, the construction of a new BelCan Bridge, and a comprehensive upgrade of the George Price Highway from Belize City to Hattieville.

Chief Engineer Evondale Moody said the session will focus on preparing residents for the scale and duration of the works.

“We have a consultation scheduled for tomorrow at the Civic Center at 6:30 p.m. where MIDH will be collaborating with the Belize City Council to have an information session with the city to advise on three major projects that the government will be implementing for the next three years,” Moody explained.

He noted that the highway upgrade from Belize City to Hattieville is considered Lot One of the broader George Price Highway rehabilitation project.

The town hall is expected to give residents an opportunity to raise concerns and gain clarity on timelines, traffic diversions, and phased construction plans.
