Cloudy Skies, More Rain and Ongoing Flood Threat Across Belize

Belizeans can expect another wet day with mostly cloudy skies, periods of rain, a few scattered showers, and a low chance of isolated thunderstorms. The weather will be most active over northern and central areas, as well as offshore, according to the latest forecast from the National Meteorological Service.

While the wet weather persists, there is at least one piece of good news: the North Atlantic Basin is expected to remain quiet for several days, meaning no tropical cyclone poses a threat to Belize or its coastal waters at this time.

Saturday’s outlook calls for generally cloudy conditions with a few showers or light rain, mostly over the north and offshore areas, gradually decreasing towards the end of the day.

This follows yesterday’s government advisory warning residents to brace for possible flooding as heavy rains continue to affect several regions. A Flash Flood Alert is in effect for the inland west, central areas, the central coast, and inland southern Belize. The report highlighted areas at risk of flooding within the next 24 hours, including the Belize River at More Tomorrow and downstream communities, the Sibun River at Freetown Sibun, the Sittee River at Kendal, and the Golden Stream River at Hellgate in Region Eleven.

Communities highlighted in red on the national forecast map face the highest flash flood risk, while those in orange are at medium to high risk. Authorities continue to encourage the public to monitor official weather updates and travel cautiously near rivers and low-lying areas.
