ComPol Rosado Speaks on Free Zone’s Policing Measures
The Corozal Free Zone has been under tighter security since December 2025. Today, Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado spoke on the active “innovative policing strategies.”
“Our approach in the free zone has always been an interagency approach,” ComPol Rosado said. “We have both the Belize Defence Force and the Coast Guard assisting us in policing the Free Zone area. So it’s a collaborative and joint effort in ensuring that we police the Free zone area and within our border area.”
In December, security took a new shift that included an ATV for police patrols, accommodations for deployed soldiers, and strengthened coordination with customs and immigration. According to the recently appointed Minister of National Defence and Border Security, Florencio Marin, the measures aim to keep shoppers safe while tackling criminal activity and cartel threats.
Rosado said closer alignment with the new Minister of Border Defense and Home Affairs will improve operations. “I welcome it. We have similar vision, and our ideology is aligned. They will challenge our assumptions and allow us to create more innovative policing strategies,” he said.
“I personally believe that with them coming on board, you will see more innovation, more technology in our crime-fighting effort,” Rosado added.
