CONFIRMED: SSB Chair Resigns BTL Board Over BIG Telecom Deal
News 5 has confirmed that Chandra Nisbet-Cansino has resigned from the BTL board.
Nisbet-Cansino is the Chairperson of the Social Security Board and its representative on the BTL board.
We are told that Nisbet-Casino is opposed to BTL’s acquisition of Speednet and three cable companies, including Centaur Communications Corp Ltd., NEXGEN TV, and Southern Cable Network Ltd.
The proposed acquisition is estimated at over $150 million. SSB is a major shareholder in BTL, holding public and workers’ funds. The proposed acquisition would consolidate the telecommunications market under a single provider.
The Social Security Board has reviewed and discussed the proposal. One board member told News 5, “Members want more information.”
