Courtenay Closes Fortis Debate with Sharp Rebuke
Lead Government Senator Eamon Courtenay closed out today’s fiery debate on the Fortis acquisition, and he came out swinging. Courtenay started in an unexpected way, calling out the opposition for their ‘Who Thief Budna’ t-shirts worn on Friday. He went further, saying that only those who support pedophiles could dismiss the benefits of the Fortis deal. Courtenay argued the government had no choice but to act in the national interest when it agreed to purchase Fortis Belize Limited.
Eamon Courtenay, Lead Government Senator
“It occurred to me when I listened to senators opposite that only if you love a pedophile and support Budna and publicly come out and embrace him that you can rationalize away this project.”

Shenna Pitts, UDP Senator
“It is quite uncharacteristic as Senator Courtenay to go as far in his political posturing to suggest that I or any other Senator on this side is in love with any other pedophile. The question is who thief Budna. That nuh have nothing to do with whether or not he is a pedophile.”
Eamon Courtenay
“I don’t like Budna, I will not wear a shirt with a pedophiles. I don’t like pedophiles. I will not support pedophiles or defend them. The fact is that the government was confronted with Fortis saying we are going to sell to a foreign company. Government was required to act in the national interest.”
