Customers Warned Against Fake Doony’s Loan Offers
If you see a Doony’s loan offer online asking you to send money first, do not fall for it. The company is warning customers about a fake social media page using the Doony’s name to promote fraudulent loan services. According to management, the page is not connected to the business in any way. Doony’s says all loan applications must be completed in person, and customers should never send money online as a condition for getting a loan. Today, we spoke with a Doony’s customer service representative about the scam and the damage it is causing.

“Recently we realized that a group or an individual has created a fake Doony’s account, a fake Doony’s instant loans. And we do do that, but that is a walk-in process. These loans that they are doing, they’re asking you to deposit one hundred dollars and that you automatically can get a loan, and we do that, we do not do that any at all. So Doony’s would like to make that clear that we do do instant payday loans, but we do not ask you to transfer any money into no account.”

“So how concerning is this for you guys as a business and towards your customers and impacting your guys’ own accounts?”

“Well, actually, Doony’s, we are doing business for over twenty years, and we have a lot of range of customers throughout whole of Belize. So we want everybody to just understand that we do not do business that way, and we look forward to continue working with our customers. They can always come in. They can call us, but please do not transfer any money online, because we do not do business that way. We want the community at large to know. It’s a difficult time right now. People are trying to get loans, so we know that this is why they’re doing this, and we don’t want anybody to be scammed. You know, we do business the right way, and we love the Belizean community. They support us all the time, so we don’t want anyone to be short-changed in such a difficult time.”

“Well, it has happened before, but these people are continue to doing it, though we have reported to the relevant authorities.”
Doony’s is urging the public to be cautious when sending money online, noting that it is not the only business being targeted by scammers impersonating legitimate companies.
