The Corozal Free Zone confirmed today that its operations are running normally, following recent concerns over cartel activity at the Belize–Mexico border. Management said all goods are being processed efficiently, essential services remain fully functional, and visitors continue to shop without interruption.

The statement clarifies comments made by Opposition Leader Tracy Panton, who warned that criminal groups were controlling container movement and threatening importers near the northern border. The Free Zone said that its operations were unaffected by the temporary disruption, which involved Mexican Aduana and customs brokers and has since been resolved.

The Free Zone employs more than 1,500 Belizeans directly and supports another 1,500 families indirectly, making it a key economic pillar for the northern region and a contributor to Belize’s GDP. Management stressed that the Zone operates in the interest of economic development and public service, not political disputes.

With Easter weekend approaching, both Prime Minister John Briceño and Panton issued travel advice. Briceño urged caution in tourist areas, while Panton suggested Belizeans reconsider trips to Quintana Roo given ongoing security risks.
