Day Party Chaos at Cork Street Forces Guest Relocations from Harbour View
Imagine booking a peaceful weekend getaway only to find yourself in the middle of a loud, overcrowded day party featuring Deejay Puffy that you didn’t sign up for. That’s exactly what happened at Harbour View Boutique and Spa, where guests had to be moved because the music at Cork Street was blasting, the crowd was packed like sardines, and the chaos spilled out onto the streets. Director Michelle Williams says organizers never gave businesses a heads-up, and now she’s calling for better planning, so everyone can enjoy themselves without disturbing residents. Here’s her take on what went wrong and what needs to change.

“It said it was it was gonna start at three, but it actually started at 2:00. We found out about it because one of our employees saw an advertisement; we were never told directly by any of the organizers. That courtesy was not given to any of us. And so we were able to tell our guests that there would be a day party there. But yesterday was a mess. The music was incredibly loud, the crowd was uncontrollable. The people that were in there were so tightly pushed together and then all along here there were people. And then there were people that didn’t go into the place but wanted to enjoy the music, so they stayed out and they had their buckets and they were drinking and stuff. We had to move some of our guests to another hotel because they told us they can’t deal with it. The way in which in which I saw the pictures of that event yesterday, it was really dangerous. People were like scrunched up like sardines. Why not give them a place that they can go and feel dignified so people from all walks of Belize can go and enjoy day parties. I have no problem with that, they enjoy it. I love seeing people enjoying themselves, but create a space where they can go and enjoy themselves and not disturb the residents around you. You know, not take away the peace from residents around you, especially on a Sunday. I mean, come on. You have the weekend, Sundays, is that not family day. Is that not the day when you sit and you have family dinner anymore and then you come and you walk out and enjoy the sunset and the breeze. Doesn’t that occur anymore?”
