Deadly Highway Crash Near Hattieville Claims Two Lives
Tragedy struck late Thursday night on the outskirts of Hattieville. Just before midnight, at mile fourteen on the George Price Highway, a family’s journey toward Belmopan took a devastating turn. Forty-year-old Osman Pineda, accompanied by his wife and two children, was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 pickup when the vehicle reportedly collided with the rear left wheel of a Freightliner truck traveling ahead. The impact was so severe, it dislodged the wheels of one of the vehicles. But the nightmare didn’t end there. Moments later, the Ford spiraled out of control, veering into the opposite lane, where it crashed head-on into an approaching Nissan. Inside that vehicle were two men: Mexican Belizean national Othoniel Vasquez Moreno and Mexican national Amisadai Valdez Dominguez. The collision proved fatal. Pineda walked away with minor injuries, but his family wasn’t as lucky. His wife, their five-year-old, and a nine-month-old baby were rushed to the KHMH for treatment. When first responders got to the scene, they found Moreno and Dominguez trapped inside the wreck, unresponsive. Crews cut the car open to free them, but tragically, both men didn’t make it. Both men were taken to the K.H.M.H. morgue for post-mortem examinations.
