Dennison Rallies Senators Against Revenue Authority Bill

The Revenue Authority Bill may have disappeared from today’s Senate agenda, but the opposition to it is not going away. Union Senator Glenfield Dennison is already putting his position on record, saying he has been lobbying fellow senators to reject the controversial legislation whenever it returns for debate. Unions were also prepared to take their objections beyond the Senate chamber, with protest action planned for today in anticipation that the bill would be tabled. While that showdown has been postponed, Dennison warns that organized labor will oppose the proposed authority at every turn, from the Senate floor to public protests.

“It was not on the order papers, but the unions are very alert in relation to whether it would be added as a supplemental and we had some protest action ready to be triggered in the event I came to the Senate this morning and it was on the order paper. As the representative for the NTUCB I am very much aligned with the protest action by the PSU in relation to this Semi-autonomous Revenue Authority not being brought into force and I myself lobby in relation to having that bill killed.”

It is unclear when the Senate will debate the Revenue Authority Bill.
