Double Cold Front to Chill Belize This Weekend
Belize, get ready to bundle up this weekend, because a real cold snap is heading our way. The National Meteorological Service says not one, but two cold fronts will sweep across the country, the first arriving Saturday afternoon. But the real chill settles in Sunday night into Monday morning, when temperatures are expected to drop even more. If you live along the coast, you could feel temps dipping into the low sixties. Inland residents should brace for the mid‑fifties, and up in the mountains, it could reach the upper forties, which, for Belize, is downright cold. Still, Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon says we’re not expecting any record‑breaking temperatures this time around… just a weekend that will definitely have you reaching for those jackets and blankets.

“All these are quite low for Belize in the Belizean context. They are not record lows. We have just reviewed our archives and for February second which is Monday, the lowest we have experienced, first inland in Central Farm, that particular day was fifteen degrees Celsius of fifty-nine degrees Fahrenheit and for the month of February the absolute lowest was seven point eight degrees Celsius or forty-six Fahrenheit in Central Farm. So, even though they are going to get perhaps the lower to mid-fifties, it would not be the historical lowest for the month of February. In terms of Philip Goldson international Airport, the lowest for February second was thirteen point three degrees Celsius or fifty-six degrees Fahrenheit. We expect that we may see a tie or a bit lower here at the airport. But for the month of February the absolute lowest here was eleven point one degrees Celsius or fifty-two degrees Fahrenheit which occurred on February twenty-second 1978. So, a very cold snap, arctic blast as some people might say, coming our way, but not beating the historic records overall for the month of February. Very cold, quite cold I should say and people should be prepared to feel some cold temperatures, again in the Belizean context, because we know that our neighbors to the north experience temperatures much lower than that. But for us it is not historic in that it is not beating any absolute records from the past.”
So, as those two cold fronts roll through, the Met Service says it’s going to feel very cold for Belize, but not cold enough to break any February records.
