Drug Charges in San Ignacio Trigger Police Misconduct Claims

Police say they found crack cocaine inside a San Ignacio home, but the accused couple tells a very different story.

Shanne Gardiner and Kirk Morgan now face drug charges, yet they insist the drugs were planted and accuse officers of subjecting them to ongoing harassment. Those claims have placed the police operation under scrutiny, and today, Assistant Commissioner Stacy Smith offered the department’s response.

ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

“Police have formally arrested and charged Shanne Gardiner, 50 years of age, and 56-year-old Kirk Morgan, both of San Ignacio, for the offense of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. The arrest follows the execution of a search warrant at the Savannah Street residence of these individuals by personnel of the special tactics response team on Monday, 2nd November, which led to discovery of 7.3 grams of crack cocaine. These individuals will have their day in court to advance whatever evidence they believe assists them in their claims. I am of the view that police officers, when conducting their duties, they are doing so honestly. And if it is that there is any information to support that report that they’re making, I would ask them to come and make that report to the professional standards branch.”
