Here is How Much You Will Pay to Watch La Ruta Maya Finale at Grand Resort

The Grand Resort and Residence has released entry prices for spectators hoping to watch the finish of this year’s La Ruta Maya race. The price tag has drawn criticism from the public and concern from the Belize Canoe Association.

A flyer circulating online lists general admission at $75 per person, redeemable for food and drinks, while VIP tables for seven are priced at $600. The resort, however, told News 5 that general entry will actually cost ten dollars, a detail not reflected on the flyer.

While the vice president of the Belize Canoe Association, Elvin Penner, questioned both the pricing, he clarified the association’s stance.

“We don’t have any beef with the Grand Resort. They are simply name branding, which any business involved with La Ruta Maya would do,” he said.

He added that the way prices were communicated reflected “the pure fact of it being commercialised, where now the Grand Resort is trying to capture or capitalize big time on the decision of the race organisers to end it there,” he said.

He also questioned the capacity of the compound to accommodate fans. “Even at ten dollars, I cannot see how all the paddlers and spectators can fit comfortably,” he said.

The full story will be on tonight’s 6 o’clock newscast.
