Education Ministry Alerts Public of Laptop Scam
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has issued an alert over a fake online notice inviting students to apply for financial aid to purchase laptops. The ministry said it has been made aware of a “fraudulent message circulating online” and confirmed that it “did not originate from MoEST.”
The false message claims that applications are open for a “Students Laptop Scheme 2025” for learners who cannot afford a device. The Ministry stated that no such scheme exists.
Students were reminded that “all official announcements, programmes or application processes are communicated exclusively through MoEST, including our official website and social media pages.”
The Ministry also urged the public not to share personal information, documents or money with unverified sources. It said, “If you have received such a message, please disregard it.”
