Elderly Woman in Wheelchair Rescued From Blaze

A fire destroyed a house in San Narciso Village, Corozal, this morning. No injuries were reported.

An elderly woman in a wheelchair was inside the home when the fire started. A neighbour acted quickly and managed to take her out before the flames spread.

According to the teacher who lived in the house, the blaze started from an electrical issue near her work desk, where several devices had been plugged in.

Another family member arrived and attempted to fight the blaze with a truckload of water, but the effort was unsuccessful.

By the time the fire truck arrived, the house had been fully consumed in flames. News 5 understands the family were unable to salvage any belongings from the house.

Authorities have not formally determined the cause of the fire.
