Elmer Nah Triple Murder Trial Adjourned for Medical Reasons
There has been yet another delay in the Elmer Nah triple murder trial. At the High Court today, Justice Nigel Pilgrim granted a one-day adjournment, this comes after more than three months since the case was last called. Nah says that about a week ago, he was pepper sprayed while in prison through the ricket after allegedly witnessing security beating a prisoner. His attorney says rust mixed with the spray and sent particles into his eyes. But because he wasn’t treated until the following day, the injury got worse and has now led to complications. Dr. Lynden Jones told the court that Nah’s left eye needs proper medical attention before he can actively follow the trial. To which Justice Pilgrim ruled that the court must ensure a fair trial, and since the Crown raised no objections, the delay was approved. Prosecutors still have five witnesses to call, including Officer Jerome Middleton, police IT specialist Corporal Elias Jimenez, and two key witnesses set to testify virtually. The Crown says it hopes to close its case by next week, paving the way for the defense to finally begin its arguments in the voir dire.
