Enriquez’s Second FOIA Targets Constituency Fund Spending
And while Jeremy Enriquez’s first FOIA request has hit a legal roadblock, he is taking another shot at acquiring information for the public good. This time, Enriquez submitted a request for information to the Office of the Prime Minister. He wants to know the details of how the Constituency Development Fund is being allocated. “These FOIA requests are not sent off the cuff. We want serious transparency and accountability that this government pledged in their political manifesto, that they will undertake good governance practices. So, this FOIA request that we made is asking the prime minister to tell the nation how much money is allocated to each area representative, each electoral division under the community development fund, how much money is spent and how these monies are being used and if we are getting value for money, what are the accountability processes, what are the procedures. We are asking the prime minister to tell the nation and so we want to get out of this culture of secrecy. In fact, corruption is born out of secrecy.”
