Ex-Partner Sets House on Fire; Mother and Child Die
A tragic act of domestic violence has left a mother and her six-year-old son dead after a fire engulfed their home in San Felipe Village, Orange Walk, early this morning.
According to allegations, the blaze was deliberately set by 34-year-old Francisco Godoy, the ex-common-law husband of 35-year-old Angelita Magaña. Around 3:00 a.m., villagers saw the Magaña home in flames.
Six-year-old Tishan Godoy perished. Also inside the house was his sister and his mother’s current partner, Miguel Novelo. Novelo told police he woke to a loud noise and saw Godoy running from a room on fire. Moments later, Angelita and her daughter ran out covered in flames. Novelo tried to rescue little Tishan, but the heat was too intense. Firefighters later found the charred remains of Angelita and her son inside.
Godoy also suffered burns and is under police guard at the hospital.
St. Michael RC School posted, “It is with profound sadness that our school community mourns the loss of two beloved members of our St. Michael Family: Tishan, infant II student, and his mother, Mrs. Angie, who served as dedicated school helper. May their souls rest in peace and rise in eternal glory. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, especially their older daughter, who is still fighting for her life.”
