Family Home Reduced to Ashes, Husband Held for Questioning

A woman reportedly watched her family home go up in flames moments after her husband entered the building. The weekend fire in Paraiso Village destroyed the house and left police investigating what they believe may be a deliberate act. The woman’s husband is now in custody as investigators try to establish how the fire started. Police say the case is especially troubling because the couple had reportedly been involved in previous domestic violence incidents. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero explains what investigators have uncovered so far.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head, National Crime Investigation Branch

“On Saturday, police responded to a report of a fire at Paraiso Village. Upon their arrival, they saw a building eighteen feet by twenty feet engulfed in flames. Investigation revealed that a male person, Gregorio Espiritu went into the house and set the building on fire. This report was made by his wife Brenda Espiritu, who reported she was in the area when she saw him enter the house and thereafter the house was engulfed in flames. Gregorio Espiritu is in custody pending investigation at this time. Yes there are previous reports of domestic violence in the house.”
