Family Returns to Burnt Home, Mourns Beloved Dog

Ambar Ayala, Hilton Classen, and their young daughter Kelly returned to Belize from an urgent trip abroad to find their house destroyed by fire. Among their losses was their dog, Lana Lu.

In a statement, the family expressed gratitude for the swift response and community support. A neighbour is providing temporary housing while the family begins to rebuild.

Images of the aftermath show the house extensively damaged beyond repair. “Between the intense heat of the flames and the massive amount of water required to stop the blaze, most parts of the home have been deemed completely unsalvageable,” the family said.

According to the family, the insurance policy had not yet taken effect.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support rebuilding efforts. Donations of essentials such as clothing and hygiene products are also welcome.

“We are picking up the pieces slowly. Any support to help us rebuild our lives from the ground up will help us heal from this tragedy,” the family said.
