Family Says “Jerry” Ingram was Intended Target

Relatives of Jermaine Jerrington Ingram Jr. say Saturday’s double murder at a creek in Unitedville did not come without warning.

Police reported that 23-year-old Ingram and 20-year-old Miguela Vanegas were shot while at the community’s popular swimming spot. Both died at the scene.

Ingram’s sister believes her brother was the intended target. “He was the intended target. The female, his girlfriend innocent soul get taken away,” she said.

She claimed threats had been made weeks earlier and that the family had raised concerns with the Cayo and Georgeville police. She believes this may be the result of an escalated confrontation between her brothers and a separate group of boys from the same community.

“Anyone who was there that night could attest that they lee bwai stand up look at my brothers there, and say, ‘Me, me, me wa kill uno. Me wa responsible fi uno,” Ingram’s sister said.

She added, “That night I stopped the police, and I beg them, beg them ‘please, please take they lee bwai.’ I show the police how them lee bwai di run behind the center with guns. Nothing happened.”

Meanwhile, Vanegas’ brother lamented the fact that his sister was “just there at the wrong time.” He said, ” my sister doesn’t have no criminal past, she doesn’t have any type of bad blood with anyone… She was quite charismatic, she was kindhearted… outspoken. She was a loving sister.”

A clear motive has not been released by police and no arrests have been made.
