Fatal Collision Claims Two Lives in Concepción

Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two young men over the weekend in Concepción Village, Corozal. According to reports, the victims Jael Guzman and Renick Chavaria were returning home to Corozal after a night out in Orange Walk when their motorcycle collided with a bus. The tragic loss of two young lives has left the community devastated and the public pleading for drivers to exercise caution when travelling at night. ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crime Investigation Branch, has more details on the incident.

“On Saturday, the thirtieth of August, 2025, police responded to a fatal road traffic accident in Corozal. Upon their arrival there is a bus that had damages. Also seen was a motorcycle with extensive damages. At the scene, two persons were found lifeless near [Renick Chavaria] and Jael Guzman. They were both riding the motorcycle. Information is that they were coming from Orange heading to orozal, when the collided head on with the bus that was traveling in the opposite direction. An investigation is being carried out. The drive off the bus has been served on an NIP and the file will be forwarded before the DPP for directives.”

“We do not know at this time. Post mortem will be conducted and blood sample will be drawn in and tests will be done thereafter.”

“The information we have got us so far is yes, they were speeding.”

“One of them had on helmet.”

“Did they, I don’t know if you said it, but did they drift into another lane?”

“That is what the driver of the bus is saying, that they drifted into his lane. He tried to pull to the right to avoid them, but they still collided with the bus.”
