Ferguson to Take Middlesex Road Access Concern to Cabinet

For more than a decade, farmers in Middlesex have been struggling to get their produce to market, and the reason is simple: bad roads. Now, Stann Creek West Area Representative Rodwell Ferguson says he’s taking the fight to Cabinet to finally get this issue resolved. Farmers say the situation has gone from bad to worse, with land acquisition by Silk Grass Farms and efforts to open new roads blocked by the Ministry of Sustainable Development. That’s left the community stuck, literally. Ferguson shared the latest developments today, and we’ll be watching closely to see if this long-standing problem finally gets the attention it deserves.

“Middlesex, there is that ongoing issue with the roads and the access for farmers when it comes to the silk grass farms property nearby. Have you been briefed on this information and what is the update there? Is there anything being done to assist these farmers?”

“I had advised the village council and the farmers what is the next course of action. And I told them is that what I need from them so I can present to the committee and say this is from the Middlesex Village Council. So as now the Minister of Agriculture, I asked my district agriculture officer to work with them and I want a response from them by next week Wednesday so I can take the cabinet and see what the next way forward.”
