Fifty Belizean Soldiers Set For Upcoming Haiti Mission
As Haiti struggles with escalating gang violence and political instability, Belize is preparing to play a role in the international response. The government has pledged fifty soldiers to assist the troubled nation, joining a wider regional effort to help restore security. But when can Haiti expect that support to arrive? We asked Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca for an update on the deployment.

“Yeah, it is still a request. Belize have committed. We are committed to sending fifty of our soldiers, BDF, and I think some Coast Guard, but the conditions are not yet stable enough. There is this, what I call a sort of multi-dimensional force that is proposed to go in, which would include troops from many different countries. But before they can get the green light, they want to ensure that the conditions on the ground are stable enough and that we are not putting our people at greater risk.”
Again, Belize’s commitment to deploy troops to Haiti still stands.
