Final Ride, A Lasting Legacy for Kaya Cattouse
After years leading the pack, Kaya Cattouse stepped off the elite cross‑country circuit on her own terms. On Sunday, the cycling standout completed her final race, closing a career marked by dominance, discipline, and defiance. Cattouse didn’t just collect wins, she delivered them season after season, locking down first‑place finishes and steady podium spots. But her impact went beyond medals. She became one of the sport’s fiercest advocates, calling out unfair decisions and pushing for greater respect and opportunities for women in cycling. Her final ride ended with a third‑place finish at the 2026 Female Cross Country Classic, a fitting farewell. And while she’s retiring from elite competition, Cattouse leaves behind more than records. She leaves a legacy of resilience and a clearer path for the next generation. We spoke with her moments after that final ride.

“What did you feel class would not finish line probably for your last class country?”

Kaya Cattouse, Elite Cyclist
“Definitely a sigh of relief. It has been a rocky road being a woman in cycling in the country of Belize. My dad took up cycling a long time ago. He has had different issues with the federations because of being a person of integrity and standing up for things that you see are wrong. And I came and I followed in these, in those same footsteps. So I have definitely taken the brunt of the lick from these federations, missing national teams, all of that stuff. It’s definitely a sigh of relief. However, it has been a great journey in terms of getting to know new places in the world, getting to meet new people, the support that I have had from my family my close friends. And definitely not only winning races, but winning the hearts of the people throughout the years. Becoming a household name in the sport of cycling. And regardless of what anybody can say, Shane when you think Kaya Cattouse, you think of a champion. You think of someone who has went above and beyond and broken records in the sport of cycling in this country.”
