Flood Warning Issued for Central, Coastal and Southern Belize
A flood warning is in effect for urban and rural areas across central, coastal and southern Belize. The Ministry of Sustainable Development has advised residents to take caution.
According to the afternoon flood forecast issued on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., normal river levels are expected in Regions 7 and 9, except at More Tomorrow on the Belize River, where bankfull levels are reported.
In Regions 11 and 13, flooding conditions are expected.
The outlook for the next 24 hours warns that similar conditions will persist in southern and coastal areas. The report also added that “Some bridges in rural Toledo may also become impassable.”
The forecast noted rising levels on the Sibun River at Freetown Sibun, the Southern Lagoon at Gales Point, and the Sittee River at Kendal Bridge.
It also reported increasing flood stage levels on the Golden Stream River and the Rio Grande at San Pedro Columbia, which is approaching bridge level.
Levels on the Moho and Temash Rivers are increasing above normal, while the Sarstoon River is also rising.
The Ministry urged residents to monitor updates.
