Flooding Persists in Southern Belize
Heavy rains continue to swell rivers across southern Belize.
The National Hydrological Service reported that while water levels remain near normal in most areas of Regions 7 and 9, localised flooding is intensifying in Region 11. The Sibun River at Freetown Sibun and the Sittee River at Kendal Bridge are both at flood stage, while the Southern Lagoon near Gales Point is rising above normal levels.
Bridges in San Pedro Columbia on the Rio Grande and Blue Creek South on the Moho River remain impassable due to flooding. Authorities confirmed flood-stage conditions along the Golden Stream and Deep River as well.
A flood warning is now in effect for the Sibun, Sittee, Golden Stream, Rio Grande, Moho, and Temash rivers. A flash flood warning has also been issued for watersheds on the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains.
Residents in flood-prone communities are being urged to exercise extreme caution, while travellers using the Coastal Highway are advised to monitor weather updates and proceed carefully.
