Flowers Fires Back at PM Over Sickout Comments

The President of the Public Service Union, Dean Flowers, has fired back at recent remarks made by Prime Minister John Briceño, who questioned why the union does not seek to work more closely with the government. The PM’s remarks came after reporters questioned him about the sickout. Flowers rejected the Prime Minister’s claim that he is aligned with the United Democratic Party, insisting that such comments are an attempt to politicize legitimate concerns raised by the PSU over the treatment and rights of public officers. Flowers say PM Briceño needs to grow up.

“Every time there is an infringement on public officer’s rights, because they have not infringed my rights. If they ever infringe my rights, I would know exactly where to go. Every time they infringe on a public officer’s right, which I as the PSU president has a right to defend, I would first write the Briceno administration to say you are infringing people’s rights or this policy we were not consulted on and it has implications for public officers, I would prepared to refer to him, the prime minister or the holder of the office of the prime minister is one of those persons who I don’t think has ever responded to a singular letter form the PSU. So how dare he said, I need to work with his administration? To confuse the Belizean people and to not address the issues as they are presented to him, factually, his quickest tool is to pretend he is in the circus called the House of Representatives and make it political, he is complaining because he is not a PUP. Well I voted for my area rep in 2020 and I say that with no shame. So I don’t know what he is talking about. And he needs to grow the up and be a prime minister rather than behave like a lee immature bway from Orange Walk. I have to say it like that because that is how he is conducting himself.”

Flowers says he will continue to hold the Briceño administration accountable where issues of reported injustices arise and will be monitoring the outcome of the administrative actions against the immigration officers closely.
