Fonseca says Opposition Offers Only “Gloom, Not Solutions”

Freetown Area Representative Francis Fonseca opened his presentation with a sharp takedown of the Opposition Leader’s budget response. He brushed off her nearly two‑hour presentation as long‑winded and uninspiring, accusing her of focusing only on doom and gloom while inflating the country’s problems instead of offering real solutions.

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown

“I listened very carefully to the leader of the opposition, her presentation. It was long. That is really the only memorable thing about it, that it was long. It was, in my respectful view, a very weak, tired, uninspiring presentation. It is difficult how you could talk two hours without saying anything. That is what we experienced here today. It is a classic case, as you listened to the leader of the opposition, it is a classic case of seeing the glass half empty. That is very easy to do. That is why I say it is a tired, uninspiring presentation. It is easy to see the glass half empty. And that is what the presentation was about. It was about trying to seize on any opportunity where we are facing any challenges, and of course we are living in a developing country where there are many challenges we face on a daily basis. So the whole presentation was about seizing on any opportunity where there are challenges in our country, our economy and try to make to portray them bigger than they really are, to evolve them into some serious problem.”

Fonseca’s sharp dismissal of the Opposition Leader’s marathon reply leaves the budget debate charged, with both sides now doubling down on their competing visions for the country.
