Fonseca: Schools Must Remain Safe for Students and Teachers

Education Minister Francis Fonseca says the Ministry of Education is working with Muffles College following the charging of counsellor Hedyn Mendez in connection with alleged offences involving sexual assault and child pornography.

“We have made it very, very clear, and the Ministry of Education has been very consistent in its position that we have zero tolerance for any type of sexual abuse in our education system of any type,” Fonseca said.

“When they are brought to the attention of the Ministry, we carry out a thorough investigation into these matters. We cooperate fully with the police authorities,” he said.

Fonseca said the ministry is providing support to the school and the individuals involved. He added that schools must remain safe environments for students and teachers, separate from the legal proceedings.
