Football Agent Denies Responsibility for Permit Delays in Belize
The detention of several foreign footballers in Belize on immigration offences has exposed deep flaws in how the country manages work permits and player transfers.
News Five is investigating the case involving the Wagiya Sporting Club after the players were jailed earlier in September.
Manager Nelson Moss told News 5 earlier this week that delays in processing the work permits were due to their agent, Bruno Guerrero of Mexico. According to him, it involved failure to send the required funds.
Guerrero has rejected those claims. “It is complicated because all the different countries have different forms to work with, and it is not my place to talk about that because I do not specialise,” he said. “I think what is happening is a big opportunity to change everything and do better.”
When asked directly if he had failed to send funds, Guerrero said, “It is not like that. This problem is not only with Wagiya. This problem happens with other teams too.”
More of this story will be reported in this evening’s newscast.
