Four-Year-Old Dies in House Fire
A father is struggling to come to terms with the loss of his four-year-old daughter, who died in a house fire early Tuesday morning.
Police said the fire began around 4:30 a.m. A neighbour noticed smoke and alerted 28-year-old Jowel Guerra, the child’s mother.
According to police, Guerra managed to escape the house, but her four-year-old daughter, Kyra Bennett, who was reportedly asleep beside her, remained inside.
Reports are that Guerra and another relative attempted to gain access to the burning home to save little Kyra, but the flames spread too quickly.
The two-storey house was completely destroyed. Police confirmed that Scenes of Crime Technicians recovered the charred remains of the child from the debris.
Little Kyra had just started Saint Martin’s Preschool this September.
Her father, Kyron Bennett says the loss of his daughter has impacted him significantly. “I come from a good home, but I used to love the streets, and when my baby born, that made me open my camera business and made me really see a lot that I needed, like my true potential in myself,” he said.
He added that little Kyra had been his motivation in life. “My baby showed me that. And with me and she, that’s why we had a bond, because she needed me, and I needed her. I needed her more than how she needed me… The love that i had for my baby, it was immense… All of that got robbed from one fire. I’m left here now trying to fugure out how I will pull my life together. She was my main push, my main drive,” he added.
