Fresh Police Version Emerges in Akeem Jones’ Shooting
Tonight, the story of Akeem Jones has taken another turn, this time inside a Belmopan courtroom. Police have now charged the thirty‑two‑year‑old with disorderly conduct, and he walked out on a two‑thousand‑dollar bail. But while Jones faces that charge, questions continue to swirl around the police encounter that left him shot on Monday night and later detained as he tried to file a report. Today, Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith stepped in with the department’s version of what happened, adding a new layer to a case that has grown more complicated by the day. Here’s what she told reporters.

“What I can say is that I have been advised that the Professional Standard Branch having learnt of this incident, visited Mr. Jones yesterday with a view to ascertaining exactly what happened. Mr. Jones made certain comments, and he was further advised that when he is ready to give a report the Office of the Professional Standards Branch remains open to him for that purpose. Notwithstanding that, Mr. Jones had not given a formal report, the Office of the Professional Standards Branch has commenced their investigation in relation to the allegations we know are in the media. I believe the charge he has gotten and he has already gone before the court, is disorderly conduct. What I will say is that Mr. Jones was not the only person who was charged in this incident. A second person who I believe is his brother was also charged. And police are also seeking a third individual as an incident that unfolded promoted the review of police surveillance camera and based on that the charges brought against Mr. Jones are such.”
