Get Ready for Gyal Fest!
Today’s episode of Open Your Eyes welcomed PlayChune Marketing promoters DJ Perf and Shary Obando, alongside Trinidadian artist Lady Lava, to discuss Gyal Fest and the entertainment planned for this year’s event. With dancehall and soca-inspired energy, the concert is set to bring women together for a night of music, dancing, and celebration, featuring Lady Lava and Jamaican dancehall artist Aidonia.
Celebrating Women Through Music
Shary Obando explained that Gyal Fest was created to offer an experience tailored toward women, bringing together artists whose music and performances connect with female audiences. Lady Lava, known for her energetic style and her work in the Zess genre, shared her journey in music, which began in 2008 in Trinidad and Tobago.
She reflected on the challenges of building a music career, from distributing CDs to radio stations and performing in clubs to balancing work and family life. Her breakthrough came with the 2017 release of “Daylight,” which gained popularity across the Caribbean and inspired the Daylight Challenge. After taking time away from music during motherhood and the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked in other areas to support herself before returning to her music career.
Lady Lava also discussed how she developed her sound by drawing from dancehall while embracing Trinidadian musical influences. Today, she continues to perform both Zess and soca, bringing her distinctive style and energy to audiences.
Lady Lava and Aidonia Headline the Event
The organizers highlighted the pairing of Lady Lava and Aidonia as a central part of this year’s entertainment. Alongside the headliners, the event will feature DJs including DJ Dalla, Y-G, Firestarter, DJ Fingers, Tony G, and V-Draco, with additional local artists expected to join the lineup.
During the show, Lady Lava gave viewers a taste of her performance style, offering a lively preview of the energy audiences could expect at Gyal Fest.
Venue Change and Event Details
Due to the weather, organizers announced that Gyal Fest has moved to the Belize Civic Center, providing an indoor venue for the concert. The event is scheduled to run from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM, with attendees able to arrive from 8:00 PM for music and entertainment ahead of the main show.
