Good Deeds Day Makes a Difference with Donation to Ministry of Human Development

Here’s a feel-good story that reminds us how powerful generosity can be. The Ministry of Human Development just received a meaningful donation from the Good Deeds Day Organization and it’s all about supporting young mothers and children in care. Earlier this week, we highlighted the work of this global movement and its impact on countries like Belize. At a handover ceremony held at the Belize City Council, the organization, represented by Charlotte Nal, delivered thirty hygiene kits for young mothers at the Home for Teen Mothers, four refurbished laptops for the New Beginnings Resource Center, and two fifty-inch smart TVs for the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center. Minister Thea Garcia-Ramirez accepted the donation on behalf of the Ministry, calling it a timely and thoughtful contribution that will boost education, development, and well-being for some of Belize’s most vulnerable.

“Good Deeds Day started almost twenty years ago. Next April, we’re going to be celebrating twenty years of doing good around the globe, really. So, we started just because, as a volunteer center, we wanted to bring more people involved in doing good, in volunteering. And so, we decided, you know what, let’s just do a fun day, bring people out, we invite them, and we do good in the process. And we saw that people really connected to that, and I think that’s one of the core values and principles of Good Deeds Day, it’s that doing good is fun. It’s not this obligation or something you’re mandated to do because your school or your teacher said. It’s something that could be really fun. It gives back to you as well and it allows you to be part of the community. So, twenty years later, we’re still growing and spreading the message and the word, people hear about it, they see the t-shirts, or they see something on the news and they think they want to be involved as well. That’s how we continue growing.”
