The latest figures from the Statistical Institute of Belize show that the country’s GDP grew by 6.1 percent in the third quarter of 2025. Between July and September, Belize produced $1.22 billion worth of goods and services, about $70 million more than the same period last year.

Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, is often used to measure how an economy is doing. When GDP rises, it usually means more jobs and higher incomes. But GDP does not tell the whole story. It does not show whether the benefits are shared fairly or if people’s quality of life is improving.

Government tax collections also rose along with GDP. Revenue from taxes on goods and services reached $175.2 million, up 8.4 percent from $161.7 million in 2024. This reflects more spending by people and businesses, which increases how much the government collects from everyday purchases.

Several industries helped drive the growth. Farming and fishing performed strongly, with cattle production rising by nearly one-third and lobster and seafood exports up 25 percent. Shrimp, bananas, and citrus declined, but overall the sector still grew.

Construction was busy too, expanding by 16 percent as more building projects got underway. Electricity generation rose 14 percent, while water use increased slightly. Shops and businesses reported stronger activity, with wholesale and retail trade up 7 percent. Banks, insurance, and government services also grew.

Tourism added another boost. Belize welcomed 105,600 overnight visitors and 116,600 cruise passengers during the quarter, both increases compared to last year.
