Government Commends Success of Belize Investment Summit

Today marked day one of the Belize Investment Summit, a conference held every two years to attract investors to Belize and bolster the local economy. This year’s event saw over five hundred attendees, one of the largest crowds the event has seen yet. It’s a key opportunity for local businesses to network with potential international partners. Today, about two hundred private meetings were held at the event, signaling the success of the event’s missions. We heard from Prime Minister John Briceño and Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler at the event.

“I think what you see here can, I’ll already tell you just by the visuals how this has grown tremendously since the first one that we did four years ago. And we are very pleased with the response as we, as I pointed out earlier that once we advertise the date of the summit, it sold out very quickly and we still have people trying to get in. Why is it that they come? They come for a number of reasons. The wealth of information that they get networking with different partners, both private sector, public sector, the ability to meet even also ministers and officials within government to talk about a project. I have a long list of meetings between today and tomorrow, and because of that personalized touch, we believe that it has been very successful. And as you say, when you look at the results, we have seen, hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested in bullies over the past four years, and a lot of it is attributed to events like this.

“We’re looking  at investors all across the world. And we need more investments in the country and tourism industry and different different sectors within the industry have to be built up to ensure that we continue sustain growth in the future.”
