Government Tightens Free Zone Security Push
The government says the two pillars of national security are moving in lockstep: Defense & Border Security alongside Home Affairs & Enterprise. Their objective is to keep the Corozal Free Zone, and the communities around it, safe. As part of that effort, officials handed over living quarters for deployed soldiers and an ATV to boost patrols inside the zone and along the border. They’re calling it a practical win for public–private partnership, and a step under Plan Belize 2.0 to strengthen stability where it matters most. But will these new tools, tighter coordination, and stepped‑up patrols be enough to close the gaps at Belize’s busiest border marketplace?

Florencio Marin Jr. , Minister of Border Defense & Border Security
“It’s important that the two pillars of national security, the Ministry of Defense and Border Security and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Enterprise work together to combat this transnational plague that we’re all suffering from. Today’s handing over of living accommodations to the deployment of soldiers and an ATV for the mobilization of this patrol is but one demonstration of the Government of Belize and Plan Belize 2.0 to ensuring that the security and stability of Belize remains intact. Today is also a demonstration of the success that public/private partnerships can yield, that there is open communication and that we can work towards a common goal. The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Free Zone, will work together to keep the Free Zone, and this northern border region, a safe space.”
