Government to Halt New Coastal Dock Permits for One Year

Cabinet has approved a one-year pause on the issuance of new licenses for the construction of docks, piers, and other overwater structures in coastal and marine areas.

The decision means that for the next 12 months, no new permits will be granted to build into the sea or on the seabed within the designated 66-foot coastal reserve in urban and peri-urban areas.

The press release states that the moratorium is intended to allow authorities to review and strengthen the regulatory framework governing coastal and marine development and “undertake a comprehensive nationwide inventory of existing structures.”

This includes improving systems for monitoring, compliance, and enforcement in order to ensure better management of the coastal reserve and seabed.
