Greater Belize Media: 34 Years of Belizean Excellence

Greater Belize Media is stepping into its 34th chapter, a chapter that continues to honour local stories, culture, and content that feels close to everyday Belizeans.

For more than three decades, GBM has stood as one of the country’s most recognisable media families. The journey began in 1983 with Great Belize Productions, and by 1991, GBM became Belize’s first television station with locally produced programmes.

That same year, News 5 Live was launched and quickly grew into a trusted part of Belizean daily life. Whether it’s a story that takes our teams into the depths of Belize’s communities or delivering the information the nation needs on issues that affect us all, GBM’s programmes have consistently offered a platform that is impartial, reliable, and grounded in real people and their experiences.

Beyond news, the company has long been a source of entertainment, culture, and community pride, from music and talk shows to special features that highlight local heroes, artists, and everyday citizens making a difference.

Many Belizeans grew up with these programmes playing in the background of their homes with local programmes and beloved shows such as The Andy Palacio Show, One on One with Dickie Bradley, Open Your Eyes, KTV, and Gimme 5. All of which formed part of the memories and moments that families still cherish today.

In the lead-up to its 34th anniversary, GBM continued to expand its offerings. This year, the company introduced Noticiero 5 Semanal, Belize’s first national Spanish-language TV news programme, and strengthened its morning content to better serve the diverse needs of its audience.

GBM also unveiled a 30-year time capsule filled with content that means so much to generations of Belizeans. With the “All Belizean, All Day, Every Day” programme, viewers can once again enjoy the classics that many Belizeans grew up with.

Through every milestone, our stories have always been created by Belizeans, for Belizeans.

This 34th anniversary is a celebration of our community, our culture, and our shared history.
